Loss of taste, speech, ability to eat or swallow… ‘Brutal’ is a word that describes so many people’s experiences of the treatment they receive for head and neck cancer.
The big problem we face is that cancer is not just one disease: it’s a wide range of diseases that can affect any cell in the body. All cancers form from uncontrolled multiplication of cells and their spread to other sites in the body. Historically, cancers have been classified by site of origin, eg breast cancer or lung cancer, but each cancer is virtually unique. This means that there is no single cure that will work for all cancer patients – no ‘universal magic bullet’.
Heads Up seeks to fund research projects so that we can learn more about head and neck cancer and improve current treatment methods.
